Paul McNamara

Described as a 'fit and healthy man who loved his cycling as well as life', Paul McNamara was just 49 years old when he died, his life cut short following a ruptured brain aneurysm on July 7, 2022.

Described by his wife, Mina McNamara, Paul was a 'man who loved life' and who offered 'his kindness and generosity to others in need' in a quiet and discreet manner. A proud Claddagh man, Paul lived happily in the home he and Mina built in Keamsella, Kilcolgan, and had just started work in the research and development department of Claregalway based company, Integer, having previously worked in Merit Medical.

Inspired by Paul's kindness and generosity, in July 2023, his family organised the 'Paul McNamara Memorial Walk Fundraiser', raising €17,124 for St Ann's Stroke and Brain Injury Unit at Galway University Hospital and the National Learning Network's (NLN ) Quest brain injury services in Galway.

Now in its second year, the upcoming 8km Paul McNamara Memorial Walk Fundraiser will take place from 1pm on Sunday, July 7. Embarking from St Patrick's Church, New Quay (H91 RP74 ), stunning views of Galway Bay and the Burren serve as a backdrop for the event. Funds raised will once again go to St Ann's Stroke and Brain Injury Unit and NLN Quest Galway.

"Paul was one of life’s truly generous, kind and giving people. Always there to give a helping hand. His warmth and humour, with his big beautiful smile, will be forever missed," shared Mina on the memorial walk's fundraising page on iDonate.ie

"I do this to remember this amazing wonderful husband of mine, who I was so blessed to have in my life," said Mina, adding the memorial walk has been made possible by the support of 'family, friends, neighbours and work colleagues from Bon Secours and Merit Medical'.
