Man fined after fall-out with mother over a debt

A man who had a public fall-out with his mother at a hairdresser’s over a €700 debt will now have to pay a fine of €400 for public order offences.

Yaw Oppong (22) with an address at 10 Dun Breathnach, Ballybane, appeared at Galway District Court last Monday to face charges of threatening and abusive behaviour and failure to comply with Garda orders at Fairgreen Road on May 16, 2008. He was also charged with failure to appear in court.

The Galway city and county councils are “not doing enough to promote the festivals in the city” and should start by providing easy to find information on their websites.

This is the view of Labour councillor Niáll McNelis. He says that both www.galwaycity.ie (the city council website) and www.galway.ie (the county council site) do have links to the Galway Arts Festival site but that “you have to do a lot of looking to find them”.
