The long awaited Davitt College sports hall has finally been given the green light.
Beverley Flynn TD has confirmed that a letter was issued this week by the Department of Education authorising Mayo VEC to sign a formal contract with the preferred bidder.
Deputy Flynn said that the project, to be know as the Joe Langan Sports Hall, will be under construction within 20 days of the signing by the contractor of the letter of acceptance.
“I am delighted that Minister Batt O’Keeffe has made good on his promise to Davitt College,” said Dep Flynn.
“This announcement will put paid to the cynics who continued to pour scorn on Minister O’Keeffe’s visit to Davitt College and his turning of the sod for the Joe Langan Hall. Minister O’Keeffe has been accused of fooling the people of Castlebar. It is easy to see now who is being fooled and who it was that tried to make little of the ministerial visit and what it achieved.”
“I hope that Deputy Enda Kenny and Councillor Henry Kenny will this time have the good grace to attend the ceremony when the Joe Langan Sports Hall finally becomes a reality,” concluded Dep Flynn.
