The Kilkenny Arts Festival presents another outstanding programme of events this August 7 – 16, with over 200 artists performing over the 10 days of the festival. Now in its 36th year, the festival continually delivers the most exciting, authentic and enriching cultural experiences from Ireland and around the world. Our Marble City is transformed for 10 days of celebration with cutting edge artistic excellence.
The Kilkenny Arts festival is the longest running arts festival in Ireland and over the years has transformed into a multidisciplinary arts festival, while maintaining a reputation for quality and authenticity of the arts it presents.
The present day festival encompasses visual art, classical music, theatre, dance, jazz, traditional Irish music, literature, film, architecture, indie music and children's events. This year we’ve added a new craft strand funded by the Crafts Council of Ireland.
No other Irish festival offers Kilkenny’s unique curatorial model of programming. Our eight cultural collaborators are all leading artists and practitioners in their fields and offer festival audiences unrivalled access to their contacts throughout the cultural world. We have worked extremely hard together again this year, to produce another breathtaking calendar of art, music, literature and performance for the people of Kilkenny.
To make the festival even more accessible this year, children will have free attendance to any children’s event thanks to a new sponsorship with taxback.com The central belief of the festival team is that art has the capacity to change lives and help people think differently about the world. This new initiative of making events accessible to children has a strong resonance for what the festival is aiming to achieve.
Our goal is that wherever you turn during the Kilkenny Arts Festival, there will be something or someone to inspire, excite or entertain you. Even if you haven’t heard of them before, we would hope that the new discoveries you’ll take home with you will be a valuable part of your Arts Festival experience.
