Upskill in 2019 with a payroll qualification

This year has seen some mandatory changes to how we process payroll. GPA Solutions has scheduled a QQI Level 5 payroll award which commences on March 14 in Galway. This four day course will be delivered one day a week, over four weeks. Learners will acquire a thorough knowledge of basic PAYE, USC, and PRSI computations to include the cumulative, week one, and emergency tax basis.

Galway schools help to pioneer national programme in computer coding

A pilot programme to help schools introduce coding at junior cycle is to be extended to a second phase from September 2019, Minister for Education and Skills Joe McHugh has announced this week.

Two Galway secondary schools — Coláiste na bPiarsach, Ros Muc, and Coláiste Na Coiribe, Gaillimh — were among almost 50 selected nationally in 2017 to pioneer junior cycle Coding in Action, an initiative spearheaded by the Department of Education and Skills’ Junior Cycle for Teachers support service, Lero – the Irish Software Research Centre, Science Foundation Ireland, and Intel Ireland.

NUI Galway is calling all wannabe engineers to participate in a free full-day family event, Engineering Our Future: Family Fun Day, which will take place this Saturday as part of Engineers Week. The event will run from 10am to 4pm in the university's Alice Perry Engineering Building.

The family fun day is part of the Engineers Week 2019 which celebrates engineering across Ireland, and runs from March 2 to 8. The day will feature science and engineering shows, movie screenings, workshops, and hands-on activities that will inspire young (and older) people.
