O’Sullivan is the sort of poet who excites middle aged failures, and not always in a good way. A real poet, we are told, should be crotchety and bitter and able to bore for Ireland on the origins of the pantoum which, since you ask, is a type of poem and not, as I thought when I first heard the word, an item of women’s underwear.

Indian percussion and flute music concerts and workshops

INDIA’S LEADING percussionist Giridhar Udupa, famed for his command of the Ghatam, a clay pot instrument, wil be in Galway to give concerts and workshops next week.

Sean Agus Nua, the community organisation celebrating multiculturalism and promoting tolerance, is bringing Udupa, along with French bansuri player Fabrice de Graef, to the city for these events. The shows are part of the duo’s Bamboo and Clay Tour.
