Local entrepreneurs could get a huge cash boost for their businesses thanks to a prize fund of €280,000 being offered by InterTradeIreland’s All-Island Seedcorn Business Competition 2010. The competition is the largest on the island in terms of the prize fund available and in the past has helped give fledgling firms a ‘lift-off’.

Bus Eireann has just launched a new digital media initiative which it claims is the first national service of its kind in Europeand which will make bus travel much more attractive to hundreds of thousands of bus users nationwide.
Andrew McLindon, PR manager for Bus Eireann says, “We really think that this will persuade people to get out of their cars and get onto the bus.” The service which is called whensmybus.ie enables commuters who wish to use the bus, to receive instant up to the second text and online information for arrival and departure times covering 330 national routes, and more than 700 road passenger fleet nationwide. Mr McLindon adds, “As far as we are aware this is the first national system in Europe of this degree. Other systems that you see in other European countries are city by city systems.”

Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology is now offering full-time tuition for the internationally recognised Association of Chartered Certified Accountants qualification, commencing in September.
This is the first time this course will be available on a full-time basis in the west of Ireland. The ACCA is recognised as the largest and fastest-growing global professional accountancy body with 493,500 students and members in 170 countries. ACCA Ireland has more than 20,000 students and members.
