Entrepreneurship Forum 2010 — one stop shop for emerging entrepreneurs

The 2010 Entrepreneurship Forum, aimed at new innovative companies and individuals with business ideas, will be held in the Galway Technology Centre on Tuesday May 25 from 4pm to 7pm.

Organised by Enterprise Ireland, Westbic, Galway Chamber, and Galway Technology Centre, this event will provide a one-stop source of information on the supports available to potential entrepreneurs in Galway provided by all the organisations involved in entrepreneurship.

In the current climate more and more people are looking towards entrepreneurship as a viable option, as the availability of alternative employment and demand for their particular skills or experience contracts. Supports such as tax breaks, quality enterprise space, year long incubation programmes, which can include salary support and seed and venture capital funds availability, all help in reducing the risk of starting a new venture.

Organisations attending Entrepreneurship Forum 2010 include Enterprise Ireland, Westbic, Galway Chamber, WDC, FÁS, Leader, Údarás na Gaeltachta, Enterprise Equity, Bank of Ireland, AIB, Business Angels Programme, Galway Technology Centre, and Cruickshank & Co.

In addition, workshops will be held on topical issues such as financing a business, the opportunity for social media on businesses, and the market for iPhone and ipad applications. Local company Magnetti Foods will feature as one of three case studies showing how business propositions focusing on customer led solutions can carve out their own place in the market.

“Start-up business activity in Ireland is one of the strongest in the world and right across the spectrum of business activity Galway entrepreneurs are carving out a niche for new and innovative products, competing successfully in export markets and creating jobs at home,” said Seamus Bree, director west region, Enterprise Ireland. “I do not want to underestimate the challenges we face this year, but I believe there are real opportunities to be grasped. We are all working to sustain viable and successful businesses and communities and help them to prepare for the next upturn.”

Entrepreneurship Forum 2010 is targeting individuals with business ideas and start up innovative companies to go along and discuss their ideas with the relevant state agencies and organisations. “Contact with any one business support group means you have contact with all of them in the Galway area,” said Joe Greaney, director of Westbic. “It’s a very risk free step to take to come along and initiate a discussion and get informed on the possibilities and the supports that are at your doorstep.”
