Honda reveals new compact HR-V for Europe

Honda has revealed the first images of the brand’s new European version of its small SUV ahead of its world premiere at the 2014 Paris Motor Show next month. The HR-V is Honda’s new entry into Europe’s fast-growing small SUV segment.

Galway construction works are urged to heed new safety campaign

A new health and safety campaign aimed at increasing ‘Safety at Heights’ is being rolled out on construction sites throughout Galway. Falls from heights were responsible for 24 of the 42 construction related deaths that occurred in the last five years (57 per cent of all construction fatalities) and a disproportionate number of these accidents have happened on small sites and maintenance type jobs.

Galway business secures funding boost through Linked Finance

Free training scheme for construction workers in restoration of stone buildings

The Traditional Building Skills Training Scheme (TBSTS) is a pilot programme being run by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht in conjunction with four local authorities.

Galway County Council has been selected as one of the four local authorities. The council has facilitated the setting up of the Workhouse TBSTS at the Irish Workhouse Centre in Portumna. A project manager has been appointed who together with a conservation/restoration specialist will be responsible for the delivery of the training scheme.

Seminar series on access to finance for small businesses

A series of seminars aimed at helping small businesses to access finance will begin next month.

Enterprise Europe Network, in association with Galway Chamber, will host the seminars which will provide participants with a clear and basic outline of the availability of different types of SME finance, how to access it, and the criteria involved. The seminars will cover crowdfunding, bank financing and state agency funding.

Standún Spiddal blazes a trail in Retail Excellence Awards again

Galway’s very own destination store Standún, located in Spiddal, has been shortlisted in the top 100 of the Retail Excellence Awards. The store now progresses to stage two of the awards which involves a formal store assessment which will determine if the store progresses to the top 50.

Last year the store was named as one of the top 50 in Ireland, and this is one of many accolades for the popular store that also won ‘Best of Galway’ and ‘Best of Aran Knitwear Quality and Value’ for the Wall Street Journal.
