The draws for the 2016 Galway senior and intermediate football championship will be broadcast live on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta from its headquarters in Casla, Connemara, next Tuesday February 9 at 8.30pm. Twenty teams will contest the senior competition, and 16 in the intermediate championship. The senior competition will include last year’s champions Corofin, last year’s intermediate champions Moycullen, and five other Gaeltacht teams – An Cheathrú Rua, Naomh Anna, Carna/Caiseal, Micheál Breathnach and Bearna. The intermediate teamsinclude Naomh Feichín, An Clochán, which won the 2015 Junior Championship, as well as three Gaeltacht teams –An Spidéal, Oileáin Árann and Claregalway.

Sarsfields take on Cushendal

Galway county champions Sarsfields head to Páirc Tailteann in Meath on Saturday to take on Antrim’s Cushendal in the All-Ireland club senior hurling semi-final (2pm).

Sarsfields are hot favourites to reach the final on St Patrick’s Day even though Cushendal have won the Ulster title on 10 occasions.

Salthill Knocknacarra GAA club has launched its annual John Joyce Memorial Sevens Gaelic football tournament to be held at the Prairie, Árus Bóthar na Trá, on St Stephen's Day.This is the 17th consecutive running of the tournament held each year in honour of the former Salthill Knocknacarra and Galway football star, who passed away on December 14, aged 29.
