The Corofin U-21 footballers defeated Carraroe by 1-15 to 1-03 in Sunday's county A football final at Pearse Stadium.
The comprehensive victory was the club’s third consecutive win at this grade and, allied to the club’s hat-trick of senior titles since 2013, it confirmed beyond doubt the dominance of the north board club in Galway adult football.
While all those successes are a great reflection of the hard work that is going on in the heartlands of Sylane, Belclare, Annagh-Hill, Cummer and Corofin, such supremacy by one club in any county is not a positive thing for football in the county.
Hopefully in 2016 a few senior clubs will come out of the pack and really have a go at annexing a senior county title and challenging Corofin’s dominance of adult football in the county. Change is good.
However, based on the splendid displays last weekend by youngsters from Corofin, such as wing-back Kieran Molloy, Jason Leonard, Brian Raftery, Dylan McHugh and Patrick Madden who hit 1-3 from wing-forward, that will not be easy.
