Coole Park to host family walks

Coole Park will play host to a series of walks for families in the coming weeks.
The walks will take place on Sundays at 3pm and a variety of different themes are planned. All walks are free of charge.

A circuit court judge reduced a five-month sentence, imposed on a man for selling a small quantity of cannabis, but he directed that another sentence imposed on the same man for drunken driving, run consecutively to the drugs related sentence.
Francis Barrett (36), 2 Saint Nicholas Park, Doughiska, Galway, pleaded guilty at Galway District Court in April, to having a small quantity of cannabis in his possession and to having the drug for sale or supply to another when searched by Garda Brian Mulderrig on March 23 last at No 1 St Nicholas Park, Doughiska.

Having community wardens or gardaí out each day at peak traffic hours trying to stop rat running is impractical. Instead a permanent barrier at the Renmore Park junction is what is needed.

Driving on two occasions without insurance cost a Ballybane man €1,000 in fines at Galway District Court this week.
Jimmy Cleary, of Fana Glas, Ballybane, Galway, was lucky though that Judge Eamon O’Brien decided not to disqualify him from driving as well, after hearing he had taken out insurance since these offences were detected.

Galway’s arts community turned out in force on Monday evening for the official launch of this year’s Galway Arts Festival. Augmenting the large assembly of local festival devotees were visiting artists such as musicians Philip Glass and Richard Hawley, playwright Enda Walsh, and artist Ruth McHugh, all of whom feature in this year’s exciting programme.

A motorist didn’t realise that simply holding his mobile phone in his hand while driving was an offence, when he appeared before Galway District Court this week charged with the offence.
Alan Connolly, Feaghbeg, Eyrecourt, Ballinasloe was not in court when Garda Liam Kelly gave evidence of seeing him holding the phone in his right hand while driving at Tuam Road, Galway, on February 9 last.
