Merlin College 10th anniversary run

To celebrate 10 years in Galway City, a number of teachers at the College are setting out to run the Connemara Marathon/Half-Marathon this Sunday April 23. The proceeds of their run, which people can contribute to on Gofundme/ Merlin College 10th Anniversary Run, are in aid of raising money to develop an all-weather running track at Doughiska Park.

The Japanese Film Festival Ireland returns for its 14th edition this April, with an exciting programme that will bring the best of new Japanese cinema to audiences in Galway.

The national festival started on April 8, and having so far visited Dundalk, Limerick, Sligo and Waterford, will continue until April 28 with screenings in Galway, Dublin, Cork and - for the first time - Wexford town.

Local homeless charity Galway Simon Community has welcomed the decrease in the number of people living in Emergency Accommodation in the West, and also expressed concerns about what lies ahead over the coming months.

According to the latest figures released by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, 490 people, including 94 families with 179 children were recorded as living in Emergency Accommodation in the West of Ireland at end of February. This is a decrease of 32 people, including 22 children since the previous month. The number of adults aged 65+ however increased by 4 in the past month.
