Mayor happy with level of decision making at first meeting of the season

The new Council season commenced this week with some significant and positive announcements, not least of which is the acquisition of the new Childrens Cultural Hub at Lenaboy Castle (St Annes), Taylors Hill. I am delighted to preside as Mayor over this great news story for both the children of Galway and the cultural sector.

This facility will provide a lasting cultural legacy for generations to come.The impact this initiative will have on the artistic and cultural output of the city is immense but let us not forget the impact this will have on the physical and mental health of so many people, not to mention the powerful support it will provide to the economic output of our city and ultimately in employment.

Celebrating the west of Ireland’s rich architectural heritage, both old and new, the inaugural Architecture at the Edge festival will take place from September 29 – October 1 throughout County Galway and into County Mayo. Annual NUI Galway volunteering fair aims to inspire the next generation of volunteers

More than 60 local, national, and international organisations will showcase their work to inspire creative thinking and approaches to social causes at NUI Galway’s 16th annual volunteering fair next week.

The fair will take place on Tuesday, September 12, in the Bailey Allen Hall, from 11am to 4pm. In a statement announcing the volunteer fair, the university said it was committed to encouraging the next generation of students to be innovative and entrepreneurial, all qualities needed to be part of the community as an active volunteer in a changing environment.
