Mountbellew banger incident

A young man suffered serious injuries after a banger was set off by one of a group of youths on the Square in Mounbellew around midnight on Monday night December 4. Any information on the incident can be give to the Gardai in Mountbellew on 09096 79292.

Another young man received injuries after being set upon by a group of youths in the city after an assault in Eyre Square on Friday December 8. This happened near the market in Eyre Square at about 5pm.

The man tried to defend his friend when he was assaulted by this group of other youths. He suffered bruising and lacerations to his face. Please call Galway Gardai, 091 538000 with any information that would help identify this group of youths.

Corofin burglary

Centra in Corofin was broken in to in the early hours of last Thursday morning December 7.

Extensive damage was caused to the property in the incident that took place between 2.30am and 4.30am.

Anybody who may have seen anything unusual in Corofin village on Wednesday night going into Thursday is asked to contact Tuam Gardai 093 70840

Also overnight on Wednesday night/Thursday morning Dec 6/7, the Mercy College at Woodford in Loughrea was broken in to.

Cash was taken and quite a lot of damage was caused to the school and property. Anybody with information on this is asked to contact Portumna Gardai 09097 42060

A crèche on the Caheroyan Road in Athenry was broken into just after midnight on Saturday night/Sunday morning last, December 9/10.

Damage was caused to external doors, but as internal doors were locked, the culprits did not get any further.

Anybody who saw suspicious activity in the area just after mid night Saturday night please contact Garda Alan Maher at Athenry Gardai 091 844016.

Bogus Collectors

Please be mindful of who you give your money to, whether they are collecting for charities and organisations on the street or those calling to your door.

Bogus collectors are more prevalent at this time of year, and play on people’s goodwill.

Genuine collectors will have an identification, and a permit, they should be happy to show both of these and to and answer questions about the collection.

In the city or urban areas motorists are asked to obey traffic lights.

Pedestrians and cyclists also need to obey traffic signals. Pass/cross only on green.
