Irish Water, working in partnership with Galway County Council, have reminded customers supplied by the Kilconnell Public Water Supply and the Ballyboggan Group Water Scheme, that the Boil Water Notice issued on the scheme on June 18 due to elevated levels of turbidity in the raw water remains in place.
Irish Water has instructed a hydrogeologist to carry out trials at an alternative borehole supply to determine if it is suitable to supply the scheme. If this is successful then this would be used as a temporary solution. A longer term, permanent ground water solution is also being investigated by the hydrogeologist. The boil water notice will remain in place while the short term solution is being trialed. Irish Water will continue to liaise with the HSE on the matter.

Sustainable intensification of agriculture to meet rapidly growing global demand for food and non-food products produced by crops will require higher yielding crop varieties that can produce more food using less resources and land area. For crops such as sugar beet, this means the development of varieties that produce more per hectare, while reducing inputs. The findings from their research has been published in the international journal, BMC Plant Biology.
