Irish Water, working in partnership with Galway County Council, have reminded customers supplied by the Kilconnell Public Water Supply and the Ballyboggan Group Water Scheme, that the Boil Water Notice issued on the scheme on June 18 due to elevated levels of turbidity in the raw water remains in place.
Irish Water has instructed a hydrogeologist to carry out trials at an alternative borehole supply to determine if it is suitable to supply the scheme. If this is successful then this would be used as a temporary solution. A longer term, permanent ground water solution is also being investigated by the hydrogeologist. The boil water notice will remain in place while the short term solution is being trialed. Irish Water will continue to liaise with the HSE on the matter.
Irish Water and Galway County Council regret the inconvenience that this notice is having on customers and a further update will be issued soon.
Public health is Irish Water’s number one priority and it is important that the public continues to boil water before consumption including the washing of teeth, making of ice and in the preparation of food that is not cooked. It is imperative that people adhere to the boil water notice while being reminded that once boiled, the water is safe to consume.
