Top marks for Salthill student in Leaving Cert

A young student from Salthill was one of just six people in the country to achieve eight H1 grades when Leaving Certificate results were announced yesterday.

Lorcan Mulkerrin (17) of Salthill, a student of Yeats College for the past two years, got top marks yesterday. The youngest of a family of five, he now plans follow in the footsteps of two older siblings and study medicine in Trinity College Dublin.

Galwegians get top marks for our friendliness

It is what we always knew, but now it is official - Galway is one of the most friendly cities in the world.

According to readers of Condé Nast Traveller magazine, the City of the Tribes is the fifth friendliest in the world. The only down side is that we were pipped by rival rebels from Cork who were third, while the capital Dublin made it a hat-trick for Ireland in the top 10, in eighth place.

Mixed results for Galway in first survey of our waterways and beaches

The first nationwide survey by Irish Business Against Litter of rivers, beaches, and harbours has revealed Salthill to be 'Clean to European Norms', but the River Shannon at Portumna ‘heavily littered’, and Loughrea, Kinvara, and the River Corrib in Galway city, ‘moderately littered’.
