Joe Loughnane formally launches local election campaign

City activist to run on a platform of public services, people power and supporting the city's creative communities

Joe Loughnane, the chair of Galway Anti Racism Network, and a founder member of Galway Pro Choice, has this week officially launched his candidacy for the 2019 Local Elections.

Mr Loughnane will be the People Before Profit candidate for Galway City Central. He currently sits on the national steering committee of People Before Profit and is one of the party’s leading spokespeople on housing, anti-racism and youth issues.

A native of Galway city, where he continues to live and work, Mr Loughnane's father is from County Galway and his mother is from Pakistan. The 32-year-old is a member of the Galway City Council Joint Policing Committee and sits on the secretariat for the city’s Public Participation Network – the Galway City Community Network. He is the Galway spokesperson for both the National Homeless and Housing Coalition and the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

Mr Loughnane is a loyal Galway United supporter, and a keen supporter of Galway’s artistic and musical scenes. He has been involved in campaigns relating to health, housing, employment, and education. He will be running on a platform of public services, people power and supporting the city's creative communities. The local elections take place on Friday May 24.
