Advertiser launches new publication aimed at tourists

The Galway Advertiser will today launch its first new print publication in a decade with the arrival of #Galway — a free events and What’s On guide aimed at the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit the city and county annually.

The publication will be distributed and free of charge to city hotels, tourist offices, and transport hubs, with plans to expand this network further in the coming months.

Organised by the Galway Advertiser group, this event promises something for everyone planning their next steps.

The findings of a recent report commissioned by the Department of Education has shown that too many people are taking up college courses to which they are completely unsuited, rather than seeking out alternative pathways to the careers which give them the most fulfilment.

Curtains open tonight on Claregalway Drama Festival

It’s that time of year again when Claregalway Community Centre is transformed into a magical theatre for the annual Claregalway Drama Festival. This year the festival runs from tonight March 14 to March 22 inclusive. Nine nights of fantastic theatre for theatre goers and drama enthusiasts with a range of genres being performed, from much loved audience classics to festival premieres.

This year the man tasked with judging these fine performances is Brendan Murray, who adjudicates Claregalway Drama Festival for a second time. Each night he will critique the group’s production before giving his final adjudication, and announcing the winners on closing night. Each group performs for the honour of winning a place in the All Ireland Finals held in Athlone and Doonbeg, Co Clare.

Galway hotels feel Brexit effect, says local IHF chairman

Business sentiment amongst hotels and guesthouses in Galway and across the country has deteriorated sharply year on year, representing a start change in outlook compared with 2018, according to the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF). An industry survey undertaken by the IHF reveals that only 40 per cent of hoteliers nationally now have a positive outlook for their business over the next 12 months. This compares with 79 per cent who reported a positive outlook at the start of 2018.
