KPMG in Galway has been announced as the main sponsor for a Girls’ Soccer Academy that is being run in Galway, commencing on July 7.

The eight week academy, which is being run by former Ireland international Emer Flatley, will consist of two sessions per week and is aimed at girls aged five to 15.

"It fits in well with our commitment to the 20x20 initiative to increase female participation in sport.

“The aim of 20x20 is to achieve a 20 per cent increase in participation, media coverage and attendance in women’s sport by 2020.

“When Emer approached us, we were very impressed by her experience and enthusiasm for this project and are delighted to be able to partner with her to help make it a possible.”

Cultural shift

In addition to being a former Ireland international, Emer Flatley is also a coach with Galway WFC and the Galway U17 Squad.

" 20x20 is about creating a cultural shift in our perception of girls and women in sport," said Flatley.

"I was aware that KPMG in Ireland is one of the major backers of the 20x20 initiative and I am delighted that KPMG in Galway has come on board as main sponsor for the Girls’ Soccer Academy.

“The aim is to get girls playing soccer and interacting with other girls in a fun and encouraging environment.”
