Previté book on Corrib monastic sites reprinted due to demand

The awardwinning ‘Guide to Lough Corrib’s Early Monastic Sites’ written by Rev Anthony Previté a decade ago has just been reprinted and is now available at the price of €15 from Charlie Byrne’s and other bookshops.

This detailed book, containing more than 100 colour photographs, looks at the 31 settlements created by Irish monks around Lough Corrib. These range from the well preserved abbeys at Cong, Ross Errilly, and Claregalway, to the small remains at Kilian Church and Inchiquinn. The book also details the lives of the early saints who lived in, or were associated with, the areas in question.

Clifden social housing development moves a step closer

A 26 bed social housing development in Clifden moved a step closer with the signing of a contract for construction.

Schools under pressure to have PPE and sanitiser in place for opening says Canney

Deputy Sean Canney has been approached by schools which cannot get supplies sof PPE equipment and sanitisers due to unprecedented demand.

Deputy Canney said; “The problem is compounded by the fact that the schools are bound by procurement rules and have to purchase the supplies from suppliers nominated by the Department of Education. The Department of Education did not notify schools of the nominated supplies until Friday August 7, with schools reopening next week this has put the schools in an impossible position.

A few weeks ago, as a friend of mine was traversing cross country on his way to the south east, he stopped for a coffee at a big service station on one of the motorways. But as they got there, they could see that inside it was overly packed, that while the numbers might not have been in breach of anything, it was still not conducive to good public health were they to go in. His daughter noticed this too and said as much. “Daddy, there are too many people in there, let’s move along and go somewhere else.”
