New lighting in South Park and Blackrock will 'extend the prom in winter'

Cllr Donal Lyons welcomes funding for public lighting as part of Government funding for walking and cycling infrastructure in Galway

Public lighting along South Park, and from Blackrock to the caravan park, will be "welcomed by those who regularly walk" both areas, and such lighting will have the effect of "extending the Promenade in winter time”.

This is the view of Independent Galway City West councillor, Donal Lyons, who has welcomed the Government's recently announced €3.1 million funding for walking and cycling infrastructure in Galway city, as part of the overall July stimulus package.

The allocations have been made solely for design and works which can be completed by the end of November 2020. Among the works taking place are public lighting on the walkway in South Park (€160,000 ); public lighting from Blackrock to the caravan park (€150,000 ); public lighting on the laneway from the Westbrook estate to Ballymoneen Road (€8,000 ); and public lighting from Monksfield to Oaklands (€6,000 ).
