Closing Eyre Square is not the solution, says FF councillor

A suggestion at last week’s meeting of Galway Joint Policing Committee that Eyre Square may be closed off during certain hours should not even be considered, a city councillor has claimed.

The suggestion was made three days before last week’s incident in which a student waiting for a bus was struck by a firework which was fired across the Square and which has prompted an intensive Garda investigation.

Gaeltacht jobs boost as Connemara company secures major aerostructures contract

ÉireComposites, an Údarás na Gaeltachta client company located in the Conamara Gaeltacht, has secured a multi-million contract with Spirit AeroSystems, the world's largest first-tier aerostructures manufacturer, to provide structural components for business jets and commercial airliners.

The new contract will bolster 60 existing positions in Éire Composites and the company will look to create 40 new jobs over the next three years at their facility in Indreabhán in Co. Galway.

Galway University Hospitals (GUH) is seeking volunteers for its patient council. The vacancies have arisen because some members on the current council are nearing the end of their term.

The aim of the organisation is to work with GUH (University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park Hospital) to identify current and future opportunities to improve the care experience for patients, families, and caregivers when using both hospitals’ services.

I was going to begin at the beginning with a master’s programme at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Carrying the biggest bags, I’d ever travelled with and taking the longest flight I’d ever been on, I came with a light mind that had only two things on it: the focused practice of creative writing and immersion into the Irish culture.
