A Galway man, who claimed to be the victim of a “stitch up” and that gardai had planted drugs on him, was found guilty at Galway Circuit Criminal Court yesterday of possession of some €10,000 worth of heroin with intent to sell or supply.
John Tompkins (38) with an address at 181 Castlelawn Heights, Headford Road, Galway, pleaded not guilty last Tuesday to the charges of possession of diamorphine and to intent to sell or supply the drug in the area of Woodquay on April 9, 2008.

An Bord Pleanala inspector's report into the proposed M17 Rathmorrissy to Tuam motorway scheme has been criticised as being severely flawed and that it contravenes EU legislation on environmental impact assessment.
Brian Guckian, an independent researcher into sustainable transport and a campaigner, has analysed the report used by the planning board to give permission for the scheme on March 6 last and has said that it did not comply with the provisions of the EU directive on environmental impact assessment (EIA).

\The artist John Dinan will give a painting demonstration at The Kenny Gallery, Liosban this Saturday at 2pm and discuss his painting technique and answer questions from the audience.
Mr Dinan lives in Cross, County Mayo where he has his studio. He qualified as an electrical engineer and after a successful business career he opted to switch to art full-time almost 10 years ago. He studied painting at the National College of Art and Design, as well as with Henry Healy RHA.
