ePower brings 90 EV charge points to 13 Irish hotels

Windward Management, a team of experienced hotel operators and investors, have launched 90 new electric vehicle charge points in 13 of their hotel locations nationwide. The charging infrastructure was installed by ePower who supply, install, support and manage electric vehicle chargers throughout Ireland.

The old maxim about several buses coming along at once certainly applies to the announcement by the National Transport Authority at a city hotel earlier this week. The headline act is the possibility of a 24-hour bus service, but let’s not go queuing at 4.45am just yet as it could be two years before that bus pulls up.

However, I do like their way of thinking, because at last it will be about providing viable alternatives to the use of the car in our city of cars. Much has been written over the past decade about the dependance of citizens on the car network, for a variety of reasons. The comfort, the privacy, but in some cases, because of the lack of an alternative service to bring you to and from your destination at a. time of your choosing.

No one can deny that the verbal vulgarity of swearing, cursing, or what used to be called profanity has become accepted and even standardised in the modern world. Whether in films, novels, music CDs, or stand-up comedians, dropping the f-word is always guaranteed to raise a laugh.

I grew up in household where I never heard any these objectionable words. Without ever making a big deal out of it. I never heard my father swear, and my mother was so punctilious, she wouldn’t even utter the word ‘God’ except in a reverent sense. Consequently, when I arrived in Ireland, 50 years ago, I was surprised and, yes, shocked the casual profanity that surrounded me, and grated on my ear.

The Japanese Film Festival Ireland returns for its 14th edition this April, with an exciting programme that will bring the best of new Japanese cinema to audiences in Galway.

The national festival started on April 8, and having so far visited Dundalk, Limerick, Sligo and Waterford, will continue until April 28 with screenings in Galway, Dublin, Cork and - for the first time - Wexford town.
