More gobbledegook on housing, says TD

A secret report into housing across Galway has revealed a shocking failure of the City Council to reach even half its build target for social housing for 2022.

A chairperson’s report from the Galway Social Housing Taskforce, which looks at housing across the city and county, highlights Galway City Council delivered only 150 new social houses last year, or just 46% of its 2022 target. Meanwhile, Galway County Council hit a thumping 97% of its target with delivery of 224 new social homes.

The ongoing difficulties faced by medical card holders seeking dental care in Galway is an ‘urgent issue’, according to Sinn Féin TD for Galway West/South Mayo, Mairéad Farrell.

SIPTU radiographers at city hospitals vote for industrial action over workload

SIPTU radiographers from both city hospitals, University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital, have returned a large majority vote for industrial action up to, and including, strike action, in the ongoing dispute over ‘safe staffing levels’.

In a statement released by SIPTU, the largest trade union in the island of Ireland, the organisation says that the vote for action is the result of long highlighted issued with staffing.

New documentary to give insight into life of Tony Flannery

A new Tg4 documentary to be broadcast this month will give a personal insight to the life of Galway-native Redemptorist priest Tony Flannery who was suspended from public ministry by the Vatican in 2012 for expressing his support for women’s ordination, optional clerical celibacy, same sex relationships and his liberal views on homosexuality.

Ordained in 1974, Tony Flannery is a well-known priest and missionary and native of Attymon, Co. Galway.
