Award winning Irish author Mike McCormack will be at Kennys Bookshop for an event on Tuesday, October 17 at 6pm to celebrate the launch of his new novel, This Plague of Souls. He will join author Lisa McInerney in conversation and the event is free to attend.
This Plague of Souls, published by Tramp Press on October 26, follows a man named Nealon recently released from jail, who returns to his family home in the West of Ireland only to find an empty house. It seems the world has forgotten that he even existed except for a persistent caller on the telephone, someone who seems to know everything about Nealon’s life, his confusing bother with the law and more importantly, what has happened to his family.
Colm Toibín has said of the book “This Plague of Souls is written in perfectly-pitched cadences. It captures with exquisite care of a man ambushed by loss and fear, by hovering forces that are mysterious and otherworldly and beyond his control. It further establishes Mike McCormack as one of the best novelists writing now.”
Mike McCormack has published two collections of short stories - Getting It In the Head and Forensic Songs - and three novels, Crowe’s Requiem, Notes from a Coma and Solar Bones. In 2016, Solar Bones won the Goldsmiths Prize and was BGE Irish Book of the Year, and in 2017 was longlisted for the Man Booker prize.
