The conference will take place in NUI Galway on Thursday May 28 and is aimed at anyone interested in improving levels of confidence, creative and critical thinking and problem solving in primary school children, and in finding new ways of exploring the curriculum using creativity and active learning.

On yer bike for the west’s biggest charity cycle

International cycling legend Sean Kelly will be one of more than 1,500 cyclists taking to the road on Sunday June 7 for the Annual “Croí Tour de Lough Corrib” charity cycle. The event is the biggest charity cycle in the west.

It takes a circular scenic route from Galway around Lough Corrib, a cycling distance of 120km. There is an option for a shorter trip of 45km.

See the picture with this article? It shows about 50 dogs. Not rabid strays. Not unkempt mongrels. All of these dogs in this photo were rescued by MADRA from being “put to sleep” in April alone. In Galway. That’s just one month. If you look at the picture again and double it, what you will see is the approximate number of dogs that are put to sleep in our city pound each year. Funded by ourselves. A sad indictment that so many animals abandoned through no fault of their own have to be killed, no matter how humanely the process is described or how Disneyified the ‘put to sleep” scenario sounds. Bottom line is Fido doesn’t wake up.
