A teenager from Mountbellew No Name Club was among the national winners at the No Name Club National Youth Awards,
Deirmaid McDermot was named Host of the Year at the event, which took place in Kilkenny last week.
Deirmaid McDermot is in fifth year at Colaiste Mhuire. He plays football and hurling for Ballygar and also likes to play golf.
He played the ‘senior thief’ in the school musical Oliver and has competed for three years in the No Name Club Super Talent competition. Deirmaid has received a bronze Gaisce medal and was selected to participate in the Dermot Early Youth Leadership Innovation Programme.
He photographs all his club events and then publishes on Facebook, enjoys ice skating and bowling, as well as running several youth discos for his club. He is also involved in the annual Mountbellew No Name Club soccer tournament. Deirmaid is interested in hotel management and is currently doing work experience at the g Hotel.
Niamh Fannon of Kilbride No Name Club was named Hostess of the Year at the black-tie event.
The annual awards, which have been running for 32 years, bring teenagers and their adult leaders from clubs around the country together to celebrate the involvement of teenagers in communities across Ireland.
