Just a quarter of all Galway election candidates in 2014 were women

More than one in four candidates selected by the major political parties to contest elections in Galway city last year were women.

The city ranked fourth nationally in terms of female representation, according to a report on female candidate selection published by Women for Election, an organisation seeking gender balance in politics. It provides training, support and mentoring to women to encourage them to become more politically active.

Choirfactor efforts to hit the high notes for SCCUL Sanctuary at Kilcuan

Funds raised from the 2015 Choirfactor will enable a wide variety of groups to benefit from healing therapies and well-being workshops in the SCCUL Sanctuary in Kilcuan, Clarinbridge.

Since its establishment in 2012, The SCCUL Sanctuary has developed tailored therapy retreat days for support groups for people with Parkinson’s disease, MS, cancer and those bereaved by suicide. The SCCUL Sanctuary has also provided assistance to mental health and carers support groups and the Galway Head Injury Support group
