Connolly welcomes support of Regional Health Forum in remedying position of Galway psychiatric unit

Councillor Catherine Connolly has welcomed the support of the Regional Health Forum regarding her motion suggesting the Forum receive an urgent report on what steps have been taken by HSE West to remedy the position of the psychiatric unit in Galway. Ms Connolly was speaking in relation to the ongoing health and safety concerns of the staff and those of the Mental Health Commission.

Rooftop auction for WB Yeats tower this Sunday

A 40 per cent cut in funding for the arts has meant that a local committee in Galway is having to go it alone to restore WB Yeats’ former home of Thoor Ballylee. The Yeats Thoor Ballylee Development committee will hold a fundraising evening at the tower this Sunday, May 31.

The auction will take place on the rooftop of the tower with local auctioneer, Colm Farrell MIPAV, acting as William Butler Yeats. Funds raised will be used to re-open the tower to the public 13 days later, with the greatest Yeats party in Ireland to commemorate the 150th birthday of William Butler Yeats. The fundraising event will get national and international recognition with press present during the event.

Road at Lough Atalia Bridge to reopen this weekend

The works on the Lough Atalia Bridge will come to an end on Friday night and, barring unforseen circumstances, the road at the bridge will be open by Saturday morning. However the one-way system which is operating inbound along Lough Atalia Road and outbound at College Rd will remain in place for the next three weeks to trial how it will operate after the road reopens.

Henry Shefflin to open Kilbeacanty’s new pitch

The 2015 Kilbeacanty seven aside hurling tournament takes place this June Bank Holiday Monday. This year’s competition coincides with the club’s 130 year anniversary celebrations and the official opening of the recently re-developed pitch in Kilbeacanty. 

The club has announced that 10 time all Ireland winner Henry Shefflin will be in attendance to cut the ribbon and officially open the new pitch. His club and current all Ireland club champions Ballyhale Shamrocks will be competing on the day along with a host of local teams from Galway and Clare, including the reigning Kilbeacanty 7s and Galway county champions, Gort, and recent all Ireland club champions Saint Thomas’ and Clarinbridge.

City housing crisis to take '289 years' to deal with at current rate claims Farrell
