Sol y Luna School Of Spanish for primary, secondary and post primary students

Esther Merino has been running Sol y Luna Language School in Galway for the past number of years and the testimonials from both parents and students speak for themselves of how successful Spanish students with Sol y Luna are.

Spanish is the third most spoken language worldwide, preceded by only English and Chinese. "While learning another language has not been a priority for many Irish people, recently we have seen an increase in the awareness of the benefits socially, academically, and professionally in having proficiency in Spanish," Esther Merino said. "Having another language is on a par with having a master's, many now recognise."

Secondary school

As with any language at Leaving Certificate level, the oral examination is paramount in achieving maximum grades. Esther Merino has extensive experience in preparing students for Leaving Cert exams through Departmental oral exam preparation, mock oral interviews, weekend preparation courses, and one-to-one tailored tuition which caters for the specific needs of the student.

"I was finding it difficult to increase my grade," said one student. "After a practical guidance with Sol y Luna, I achieved a great mark in my Leaving Cert."

Primary schools

Children's ability to learn languages is increased by early exposure to another language other than their native one. Esther Merino has seen the evidence in her own children who are attending a Gaelscoil and are now fluent in English, Irish, and Spanish. "This is very achievable for any child if guided in a fun, interactive, and immersive enviroment."

Children can start as early as five years of age and enjoy the social aspect of learning a new language, while increasing their self confidence and language skills.

Esther Merino has the added advantage of incorporating ICT skills into the class with the view of producing a short film of the children's work at the end of their course.

She is currently teaching classes in a number of schools as extracurricular activity and facilitates courses in the Galway Cultural Institute catering for both primary and second level students.

Adult classes

Sol y Luna's adult clients range from third level Spanish students to those who are learning Spanish for travelling or professional purposes, and the school readily tailors tuition to the specific needs of the students.
