Fianna Fáil General Election candidate for city-based candidate Galway West John Connolly has hit out at the Taoiseach’s refusal to consider increasing rent allowance for families at risk at homelessness.

When quizzed by Micheál Martin and media commentators about homelessness last week, the Taoiseach again refused to consider increasing rent supplement for at-risk families, leading Mr Connolly to state that the Government has completely failed to take charge of the homelessness issue, and because of a lack of concrete measures, this problem has now turned into a national emergency.

Reprieve for Aran Island residents as ferry services to continue - for now

The Island Ferries company, which had been threatening to cease carrying passengers between Rossaveal and Kilronan in the Aran Islands, has agreed to extend its services until spring. The company had claimed it would stop its operation due to a protracted dispute over a levy of .80 cent which it is forced to collect from passengers on behalf of Galway County Council.

The crooks involved are ringing people, who will hear distressed screaming or shouting in the background. The line then goes dead. If the number is called back, it can drain the victim's phone of top-up credit, or add a large fee to the phone bill.
