Alice-Mary Higgins calls on voters to elect a progressive, reforming voice to Seanad Éireann

Independent Seanad candidate, Alice-Mary Higgins has today urged all those with a Seanad ballot paper to use it as every vote will count in setting the policy agenda for the next Seanad.

Ballot papers for the NUI Seanad elections should be signed, witnessed and posted by Friday or Monday to reach Dublin before close of poll is 11am Tuesday 26 April. If someone in your house has not yet collected their ballot paper, now is the time to reunite them with it!

Aran Islands singer attempts to raise funds for album following cancer battle

An Inis Oírr based singer and songwriter, who was forced to spend the money she had originally saved to make an album on cancer treatment, is attempting to raise funds to finish the project. Lasairfhíona Ní Chonaola was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was five months pregnant at the age of 39. At the time, the singer was in the process of putting together her third album.

Fascinating images from above by FlyCapture Drone offer opportunities for emergency services

A new venture, based in Oranmore that uses a drone to take the most amazing images from the sky, is also using the technology to help out with local missing person searches. FlyCapture has volunteered its services to provide assistance to the newly established Oranmore Maree Coastal Search Unit (OMCSU) which has been co-ordinating and running searches for missing people in recent weeks.

Local supermarket manager, Gavin Walsh of Nestor’s Supervalu arrived with a delivery of fruit, providing fresh fruit treats for all pupils to enjoy on the day. Glenisk and Clada Water also lent their support by providing yoghurts and water for the children to enjoy.

For one night, fight your desire to avail of low-rate Sunday rates for liaisons of love. That’s the night that the staff will kick in the door, tap ya on the shoulder while you’re in flagrante delicto, ask who are you, what’s your name, have you any kids, how do you get to work, and how the hell did you manage to get into that position without ruining your back?

Ever since John Denver sang that song about Annie “you fill up my census,” the fear of the census has send shivers down the spine of every proud private Irish person wanting to know “what would that census crowd be wanting with information on whether you travel to work in a lorry and whether you’re barely able to throw a few focails together. In bibical times, the belief was that the census was often called by Satan. And in many parts of this country, that feeling persists.

Quarter of all homes in Galway fall into the poorest energy ratings

When Joe Healy started to poll strongly in Munster, which should have been the stronghold of Kerry native Flor McCarthy, the signs were ominous for the Kenmore man, and the IFA presidential race's third competitor, Laois native Henry Burns. The Athenry man was surging ahead before any box in Galway was opened, which was always going to have a significantly positive bearing on his final tally.
