Cllr Peter Roche says he is “disgusted” and “betrayed” and will be putting his support on hold for suicide prevention charity Console after the charity’s payment scandal was revealed in a Prime Time special last Thursday.

Console, which provides counselling to those who have been bereaved by suicide or those in crisis, is currently under investigation by gardaí and the HSE for financial mismanagement.

Smaller apartments on the way for Galway

City councillors have this week voted to include national guidelines on new apartment developments in the draft Galway City Development Plan 2017 - 2023, despite concerns that the rules will see a reduction in the size and quality of new apartments built in the city.

The guidelines, published by the Department of the Environment, Community, and Local Government last year, include provisions for studio style apartments, which divided opinion among councillors. However as the guidelines are national policy they must be included in the development plan.

Celebrate SeaFest with Mary’s fish and chips

Mary Kilcommons, owner of Mary’s Fish, Ballybane, formerly Mary Carrick from the Claddagh, prides herself on sourcing produce from local providers. Mary’s Fish, in conjunction with Tribeton, would like to invite you to try some fish and chips during the Galway SeaFest this Saturday and Sunday.

Needless to say, the fish will be excellent, and will be accompanied by a selection of homemade condiments. Padraig Casserly, head chef at Tribeton, will prepare homemade tomato ketchup, homemade Edinburgh vinegar (the original malt vinegar that goes best with chips), and some homemade Tartare sauce. Mary will also have a stand selling fresh fish for the two days of the festival, just look for the blue and yellow banners with the happy looking fish.
