The city deserves better for its green spaces

While it is expected to reopen shortly, this green riverside space was just briefly reopened in May before it was shut again nine days later after large crowds gathered at the end of the school term, generating rubbish and noise, and causing a big headache for local residents.

Galway City Museum receives ‘excellence’ award in post-COVID tourism boost

Galway City Museum has received a special accolade under the prestigious Museum Standards Programme for Ireland (MSPI), coordinated by The Heritage Council.

It comes as the sector prepares a fightback against the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. The certificates were presented at a special online ceremony this week. Established by the Council to benchmark and promote professional standards, selection under the MSPI is seen as a major accolade in the sector. Factors taken into account include how museums care for their collections and visitors, as well as governance and management standards, and their education and exhibition programmes.

On Saturday 24th July, Patrick Dempsey visited Westport, Co Mayo where he was invited to one of Ireland’s best loved heritage attractions, Westport House. Known as one of the most beautiful houses in Ireland, the stately home, which was built in 1731, is currently undergoing an extensive €5m conservation project to protect the house from the elements.
