Senator Ollie Crowe has this week welcomed The Payment of Wages (Amendment) (Tips and Gratuities) Act 2022 which will see employees given legal rights over the payment of tips. The legislation will come into effect from December 1 2022.

I used to think that those Siberian stallholders brought the cold over with them when they unpacked. As if a cloud of winter chilliness would escape from their crates of goods and envelope us all in a coldness, sated only by the mulled wines and the hot treats of the stalls.

Huge growth potential for Castlebar with new ATU Mayo University Status

The sky is the limit for the growth and expansion plans of Mayo ATU which is already seeing dividends from its new status as a university, Castlebar councillors were informed this week.

Development of the college, whose previous incarnations include Mayo RTC, St Mary's Nursing College and GMIT Mayo, is now centred around a number of key areas, Head of the School for Health Sciences at ATU and vice president of ATU Justin Kerr stated in a lengthy presentation to Castlebar MD this week - including a continuing focus on health and wellbeing, optimisation of research and scholarship opportunities, collaboration and partnership projects - as well as the development of the campus itself as a conference centre and community hub to be enjoyed by the people of the town - not to mention a major Castlebar town centre student and public housing hub.

Witnesses sought following traffic accident

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to an accident that occurred on St Mary’s Road, Galway, earlier this month.

A woman was cycling to work at University of Galway along St Mary’s Road when the accident occurred on Wednesday, October 5. She was struck from behind by a vehicle which she believed to be a dark coloured BMW saloon car. She sustained minor injuries in the collision.
