Milltown tops our Tidiest Towns

Milltown has been named the County Galway winner of the SuperValu National Tidy Towns Competition, results of which were announced at the weekend.

Milltown also retained its Gold Medal status in the competition - gold medals are awarded to entrants with scores within five marks of the national winner.

Abbey secured second place in County Galway and retained its Silver Medal status, finishing within 10 marks of the overall winner

An Spidéal secured third place in the county, having increased its score by an impressive 22 marks over last year. Na Forbacha also increased its score by 23 marks over last year, and received the Endeavour Award for the county, presented to the group which achieves the highest increase in marks compared to the previous year.

Gort received several awards in the competition, with Gort River Walk Development Group named both the west and northwest regional winner and the national winner of the Waters and Communities Award.

Gort Tidy Towns was also one of four national winners of the Bat Conservation Award.

Ballinderreen National School was the west and northwest regional winner and overall national winner of the School Award.

Galway County Council has congratulated the 45 Tidy Towns groups throughout County Galway which entered the 2022 competition, and acknowledged the huge contribution Tidy Towns volunteers make to their local areas.

Trim, Co Meath, received the top award for Ireland’s Tidiest Town in this year’s awards.
