800 high-value jobs created by PorterShed, report will reveal today

Galway’s PorterShed has supported the creation of 835 high-value sustainable jobs and hosted 1,200 events in only five years, a report to be unveiled this morning (Thursday) will declare.

In addition, the employment created by the facility creates €49 million in employment income and contributes €14 million in taxes to the Exchequer; and crucially, members have brought inward investment of €35 million to the region.

€650,000 investment in six towns and villages across Galway

Galway Christmas Shoebox Appeal sends 8,000 gifts

Some 8,000 shoeboxes were dispatched from Galway Racecourse on Wednesday, November 30 and are currently en route to bring a truly magical Christmas to children in South Africa.

Manned entirely by volunteers, hundreds of crates containing the carefully collated shoeboxes, which were donated by schools and families across the county, were loaded onto an articulated truck headed for a three week journey to South Africa.

Cabinet green light moves elective hospital at Merlin Park a step closer

Tesco appeal collects €16,607 worth of food and essential items in Galway

Tesco colleagues and customers nationwide delivered the most successful Annual Food Appeal in its 10-year history in recent days. The annual Food Appeal in-store and online saw customers donate €230,000 worth of food and essential household items to support local community organisations, in partnership with FoodCloud. To further support those in need this Christmas, Tesco has topped up the Appeal with a 20% bulk donation of food, meaning over €275,000 worth of food and household necessities will be donated to communities nationwide.
