Driver didn’t know holding mobile was an offence

A motorist didn’t realise that simply holding his mobile phone in his hand while driving was an offence, when he appeared before Galway District Court this week charged with the offence.

Alan Connolly, Feaghbeg, Eyrecourt, Ballinasloe was not in court when Garda Liam Kelly gave evidence of seeing him holding the phone in his right hand while driving at Tuam Road, Galway, on February 9 last.

TV thief has year to prove he won’t ‘step out of line’

A man who stole a television from Dunnes Stores and sold it on to have money for Christmas was remanded on bail for a year to see how he behaves himself in the meantime, following his appearance before Galway District Court this week.

James Campbell, 103 Tirellan Heights, Headford Road, Galway, pleaded guilty to stealing a €349 television from Dunnes Stores, Edward Square, Galway on December 20 last.
