Women and older sea swimmers are more likely to suffer from a condition called pulmonary oedema which causes fluid on the lungs, according to authors of a new study, which revealed that the condition has been reported in 1 to 2% of open-water swimmers.

Sinn Fein TD Mairéad Farrell has called for urgent action to address the continued and damning failures in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) which were identified in a report by the Mental Health Commission.

The report revealed that some 140 children had been “lost”, receiving no follow up care for up to two years, including children who had been on anti-psychotic medication resulting in them being not properly monitored.

I suppose I am not unique in thinking that the times when I have been the most lonely in my life have not been solitary, but those when you are among crowds and invisible. It is the sensation you get in large cities, when you are invisible in plain view.

Societies by their nature have a way of sorting out who they want to engage with, discarding those who disinterest them. We all have a habit of looking through people, avoiding eye contact, not even offering people the courtesy of an acknowledgment of their existence. And everyone has their reasons for it.
