Cllr Reddington has called for urgent traffic calming measures on the Cong road in Headford.
Recently a speed survey was completed on that section of road which showed that vehicles were coming in from the Mayo direction and were travelling at 80 km per hour within a 50 km speed zone.
“There needs to be a two tier approach in relation to this. Recently I allocated notice of motion monies to move a digital speed sign further down the Cong Road but this is only to warn motorists of the speed they are hitting approaching the town,” he said.
“When you look at other villages, there are traffic calming measures, so on that basis, we need it badly on the Cong road.
“The Gardai also need to play a role in it. It’s unfair on the people who live here risking their lives on a daily basis exiting their property.
“I have asked the area engineer for the section to be prioritised under the new transportation study which is to be rolled out in Q2/Q3 this year,” he said.
