A Limerick woman, with 108 previous convictions, went on a shop-lifting spree in Galway city stealing more than €1,700 worth of goods from a supermarket and a pharmacy in just one day, the Galway District Court heard this week.

Phew. That’s it. That’s the last issue of the first 39 years of the Galway Advertiser completed. from next week, the newspaper turns 40. Which means it will be probably have to be grumpier and slightly more balding. It will have to moan and groan even more, and have the odd midlife crisis.

A group of NUI Galway students will walk the 70 kilometres from Ennis to Galway this weekend while carrying large volumes of water to raise funds for an Irish development charity working in Nepal.
Members of the NUIG Draoicht Society will undertake the walk while carrying between five and 20 litres of water each. The volunteers will leave Ennis at 12 noon tomorrow (Friday) and walk 37 kilometres to Gort. They will continue their journey on Saturday, making the 35 kilometre trip from Gort to Galway.
