‘Dodgy box’ clampdown on users does not deter Galway users

The national crack down on the use of ‘dodgy boxes’ to access premium TV content is moving closer to home, as households within Galway were issued cease-and-desist notices between August 7 to 18.

The letters, which were issued to households in Mayo, Monaghan, Galway, Louth, Dublin, Cork and Laois, instruct those using services which provide illegal access to ‘premium television content’ being issued to households running devices which provide illegal access to premium TV content, warning users to ‘immediately cease all illegal streaming activity otherwise risk facing the consequences, including criminal prosecution’.

Funding boost of €1.5m for Mayo County Council

Bleak back to school for families and children in Emergency Accommodation across the West

Homeless charity Galway Simon Community has highlighted the challenges, families in Emergency Accommodation are facing as the usual back to school rush begins this week.

The latest figures released by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government show that the number of families living in Emergency Accommodation in the West has increased by over 17 per cent in the last year as a result of the ongoing housing crisis. There were 101 families with 212 children living in Emergency Accommodation across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon at the end of July, just three below the peak number.
