Education Expert, and former President of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors in Ireland, Brian Mooney will be one of the guest speakers at this years Pathways 2023, the West of Ireland’s largest colleges and careers event, to be held in The Galmont Hotel, Galway on September 26, 2023.
Brian is recognised as one of the foremost experts in the country on advising students on the many options open to them, as they complete their second level education.
He is excited about his forthcoming visit to Galway — speaking to The Advertiser this week, he said he is looking forward to meeting the 1,500 students attending the Pathways colleges and careers event this year.
“I get so much energy from meeting and talking to students face to face. It’s such a joy when they email or text me when they get their college offer and tell me that my advice was crucial in helping them make the right decision.
“Even after nearly fifty years working with and supporting students, every new one I engage with is a challenge to ensure that I capture the essence of their hopes and dreams and translate that into practical career/course steps to realise that life journey.”
Brian believes Pathways 2023 offers senior cycle second level students, particularly Leaving Certs, a great opportunity to meet with colleges they may attend and also future potential employers in this region.
Pathways 2023 will include many exhibitors and speakers on a wide variety of potential careers from apprenticeships to joining An Garda Siochána, careers in the Defence Forces to qualifying in nursing, recruitment companies to studying in Europe, to a host of third level institutions which will be in attendance.
These colleges include University of Galway, ATU, Maynooth University, UCD, DCU, UL, TCD, MSLETB, GRETB, Galway Business School, Teaching Council of Ireland, the Imperial College London and others. Local employers exhibiting include Fidelity Investments, Romero Games, Boston Scientific among others.
“I am so excited when I look at the range of exhibitors at this year’s Pathways event. They cover every possible career path a student can aspire to,” Brian added.
“Minister for Higher and Further Education Simon Harris has rapidly expanded the opportunities open to all learners and I am looking forward to speaking to him as part of Pathways 23 about the enhanced opportunities this generation of students will have access to. Those attending Pathways this year will be able to look and listen to that conversation during their visit to the exhibition.”
