As former Joyce’s stores across Galway city and county transform into Tesco outlets, Athenry’s local community turned out in droves to welcome the new addition on its opening day, last Thursday, November 4.

Labour City Councillor Niall Mc Nelis has warned that unless a new national industrial policy framework prioritised the scaling up of indigenous Irish enterprise, Ireland will continue to be exposed to a dangerous and excessive reliance on foreign direct investment for high value, high paying jobs.
He said that even in Galway, we must be prepared to have companies up sticks and close their doors at the drop of a hat as loyalty to Ireland is not the same as it is to the dollar.

University of Galway has teamed up with 12 institutes across 10 countries for a new €10m Horizon Europe project to examine the impact of climate change on health risks due to disease-causing microorganisms in coastal waters.
The project, 'BlueAdapt – Reducing Climate Based Risks in Blue Environments: Adapting to the climate change impacts on coastal pathogens', brings together an interdisciplinary team of researchers, including microbiologists, epidemiologists, economists, climate scientists, and policy specialists in order to investigate the complex interactions between climate change, pathogen dynamics, and human health.

Tracht signage is official Galway County Council Beach Management policy in pictures. The full 400M beach has been allocated to swimmers and the graphics clearly bans water sports. The signage also warns about a slipway as boats can be launched as well as asking people to wear personal floating devices. The updated bye-laws are official Galway County Council policy in words and pictures.

Its opening is provided by Cillian Murphy, who is a patron of the UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre at the University of Galway. Homelessness and housing charity Galway Simon Community has warned that it is highly concerned that the number of families and children homeless across the West of Ireland is continuing to spiral upwards. The charity attributes the continuing rise to multiple factors which are culminating into what can best be described as ‘a terrible perfect storm.’
The latest figures released by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government reveal there were 95 families including 209 children living in Emergency Accommodation across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon in September, an increase of 39% on the previous year.
