A south Galway farming community is plunged into sadness following the tragic death of a young man in a farm accident on Monday.
Colie Kearney from Ballyturn, Gort, died in an incident involving a tractor while he was feeding cattle on Monday morning.
He had gone to a slatted shed a mile away to feed cattle when relatives became concerned for his safety.
Mr Kearney was a popular farm worker who was well known in the community. He is survived by his parents Francis and Maura and his brothers Niall and Shane.
He was a nephew of Pat Kearney, former chairman of Galway GAA.
Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority have launched investigations into the incident.
Colie Kearney will be reposing in Saint Columba’s Church, Kilbeacanty today Thursday, January 5, from 4pm to 7pm. Funeral Mass for Colie tomorrow Friday, January 6, at 1pm.
