A young man who led gardai on a dangerous car chase before losing control of his vehicle and running away through a field was sentenced to a total of six months and disqualified from driving for three years.

Michael Kirk (22) with an address at 35 An Castan, Doughiska, appeared at Galway District Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to drink driving, dangerous driving, and driving without insurance, at Doughiska on December 3, 2009.

I was educated in a diocesan seminary during the 1980s. I was lucky to have been taught by some priests who were amongst the most dedicated and competent teaching personnel in the country. These people were above reproach of any kind and were and are a credit to their professions. Their colleagues and their superiors have failed these priests and many more like them. Their legacy has been tarnished by a systemic cover-up of crimes of such magnitude that they are the subject of scrutiny and comment all over the world.

A taxi driver was so intent on squirming his way into a rank space that he blocked up traffic, completely ignored a garda rapping on his window, and then dangerously edged his car in “on top” of the garda who had to take evasive action to avoid being hit.
