Galwaywoman who died in Africa to be buried tomorrow

The body of a young Galway woman discovered in Cameroon almost a week ago, was flown home to Ireland yesterday.

Salthill native and sports injury practioner Laura Thornton, who was aged 32, was on a three week holiday in the Cameroon capital of Yaounde when she suddenly collapsed on January 2 after experiencing breathing difficulties. Ms Thornton, who ran a sports treatment and massage business in Galway city, had been trekking in the jungle with friends.

Ms Thornton is survived by her parents, Kevin and Miriam, brothers David and Ian, and sister Sarah.

Funeral Mass for Ms Thornton will take place in the Church of Christ the King, Salthill, at 12 noon tomorrow with burial afterwards in Renville Cemetary, Oranmore.
